Acupuncture and TCM Help Smoking Cessation
Smoking is an addiction. Most smokers have both a psychological and a physical addiction. Psychological is through the habits that have formed by smoking over a long period of time and physical is through the addiction to nicotine.
Acupuncture is a holistic method to help you quit smoking. By placing small needles in certain locations on your body, known as acupuncture meridian points, both the psychological and the physical addiction to smoking can be relieved. Acupuncture is not only works on your of sense of smell, it can also elevate the headache, nervousness, and other symptoms that appear in the quitting smoking process.
Using acupuncture to quit smoking is effective and works without many of the side effects that are associated with the average person who is trying to quit. Although different methods can be used to stimulate acupuncture points for smokers, the effect varies depending on the smoker’s amount of cigarette usage, person’s age and other factors. Overall the success rate is generally around 70 to 90 percent. After acupuncture, many persons undergoing treatment reflect that the taste of smoking is bitter and objectionable. Some people have an uncomfortable dry throat, and do not want to inhale the smoke while they are smoking. Some even cannot finish even one cigarette. But there are few people that have the symptoms of salivation and nausea after first time acupuncture. These symptoms usually gradually disappear by further treatment. The most positive effect is usually noticed immediately or in the short-term when quitting smoking by acupuncture, but the key to being successful is through a longer term of treatments you will get the greatest benefit and have the most effect towards preventing a relapse.
Acupuncture Therapy: Taking smoking cessation point located between LI5(Yangxi) and LU7( Liequo), and also take LI4(Hegu), ST36(Zusanli), BL13(Feishu), BL15(Xinshu), BL23(Shenshu), BL12(Fengmen) and GB31(Fengshi) acupuncture points to inhibit the smoking addiction. Every time can needle one side or both sides of the human body for 60 minutes, twice per week, ten times as one treatment circle.
Auricular Therapy: Taking CO1(Koumen), TF4(Shenmen) and CO14(Fei) acupuncture points of ear to needle for 30 minutes each time, twice per week, ten times as one treatment circle. Soft needles or Vaccaria seeds can also be embedded in the ear for 4 to 6 days, and have the patient to compress on the needles or seeds themselves three times a day or when the smoking addiction attack.
Electro-acupuncture Therapy: Taking LI4(Hegu) or ST36(Zusanli) acupuncture points on both legs for needling, and then connects the electro-acupuncture device on the needles for 15 minutes each time, the current strength is depending on the patient’s toleration, twice a week, 10 times as one circle.
Traditional Chinese Medicine: Smoking Cessation Soup – take Houttuynia 30 grams, Ground Dragon 15 grams, Polygala Root 15 grams, Agastache, Mint, Licorice each 10 grams, and Ginger 5 grams to be boiled with water for 5 dose, drink one dose a day. Smoking Cessation Tea – take Houttuynia 250 grams to be boiled with water, drink it like tea for twice a day.
Specific program of acupuncture for quitting smoking with safety and therapeutic effect
Suitable for the crowd: there is no age limit to stop smoking by acupuncture, as long as the one is willing to break the addiction.
Treatment Time: it usually takes 30 days to quit smoking by acupuncture at 2 times per week, 60 minutes each treatment, 10 times as a course of treatment.
Treatment Method: mainly acupuncture the meridian points according to the smoker’s smoking history and state of health for the comprehensive treatment. The smokers also need to take the traditional Chinese medicine as supplement, which makes you to be relaxed, joyful, energetic and gastrointestinal comfortable during receiving smoking cessation treatment.

10 CONTER-MEASURES FOR ADDICTION ATTACH

Remind yourself that tens of thousands of people in the world had quit smoking successfully and you will be able too. Think of your family and children. If you continue to smoke, they have to continue to be a second-hand-smoker. Think about the harm that they have suffered. |
